AURIPURIFAX GOLD CLEANSING POWDER
Auropurifax is a cleaning powder for melting, separating, and reconditioning precious metals like gold. It is described as a hazardous substance that primarily contains potassium nitrate, along with potassium carbonate (potash) and di-sodium tetraborate (borax). Its function is to absorb and remove impurities such as base metal oxides, carbonaceous matter, and iron particles from scrap gold alloys.
Composition and function
- Main components: The key active ingredient is potassium nitrate , a strong oxidizer.
- Additional components: It also contains potash (potassium carbonate) and di-sodium tetraborate (borax), based on its safety data sheet.
- Purpose: When heated, the powder helps to absorb and remove impurities, such as oxides from copper and zinc, and carbonaceous matter, which helps create a more homogeneous alloy.
- Method of use: It is a powder used during the melting process of gold. Before use, it’s important to remove any magnetic particles, like steel filings, with a magnet, as Auropurifax is designed to remove other types of impurities.
